David McGoldrick Breaks Premier League Duck with Brace
Sheffield United moved into the top six of the Premier League table with a convincing 3-0 victory over Chelsea at Bramall Lane on Saturday.
David McGoldrick, who had yet to score in the Premier League, broke his duck with two goals in the 18th and 77th minutes. Oli McBurnie also got on the scoresheet in the 33rd minute to secure the victory for the Blades.
The win moves Sheffield United up to fifth place in the table, above Chelsea who drop down to seventh.
Chelsea had the better chances in the first half, but it was Sheffield United who took the lead against the run of play when McGoldrick headed home a corner from John Lundstram.
McBurnie doubled the lead just before half-time when he fired home from close range after a cross from Enda Stevens.
Chelsea came out stronger in the second half, but they were unable to find a way past a resolute Sheffield United defense.
McGoldrick put the game beyond doubt in the 77th minute when he pounced on a loose ball in the Chelsea area and fired home.
The win was a much-needed one for Sheffield United, who have now won three of their last four games.
