Move Signals Cubs Eye Future, Make Way for Younger Arms

Neris Released, Neely Promoted from Triple-A Iowa

The Chicago Cubs have officially designated veteran reliever Héctor Neris for assignment, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers. The move has not yet been confirmed by the club, but Rogers reports that Neris has already cleared waivers.

The 35-year-old right-hander was signed to a one-year deal with a team option for 2025 in March, but struggled in his second stint with the Cubs, posting a 5.89 ERA in 23 appearances.

The Cubs' decision to release Neris opens up a roster spot for right-hander Jack Neely, who has been promoted from Triple-A Iowa. Neely, 26, has a 3.45 ERA in 21 appearances for Iowa this season, and has struck out 32 batters in 26 innings.
