Baltimore Ravens Las Vegas Raiders Defensive End

Las Vegas Raiders trading away Defensive End to Baltimore Ravens for Draft Picks

Las Vegas Raiders Defense Line Hit Hard as Remaining Players Step into Larger Roles

The Las Vegas Raiders have traded away Defensive End Clelin Ferrell to the Baltimore Ravens for draft picks. The move comes as a surprise to many, as Ferrell was a first-round pick by the Raiders in 2019. However, Ferrell has not lived up to expectations in Las Vegas, and the Raiders are looking to move on. With Ferrell gone, the Raiders will likely turn to second-year player Malcolm Koonce and veteran Carl Nassib to fill the void. Koonce showed promise as a rookie, recording 4.5 sacks in 13 games. Nassib is a veteran presence who has been productive in the past, but he is coming off a down year in 2022.

Ferrell's struggles in Las Vegas

Ferrell was drafted by the Raiders with the fourth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He was expected to be a key part of the Raiders' defense, but he has not lived up to expectations. In three seasons with the Raiders, Ferrell has recorded just 7.5 sacks. He has also struggled against the run, and his overall play has been inconsistent. The Raiders have been disappointed with Ferrell's production, and they are hoping that a change of scenery will help him reach his potential.

The Raiders' defensive line moving forward

With Ferrell gone, the Raiders will need to find a way to replace his production. Koonce and Nassib are the most likely candidates to step into Ferrell's role, but they will need to improve their play in order to be effective. The Raiders may also look to add a veteran defensive end in free agency or via trade. Regardless of how the Raiders fill the void left by Ferrell, they will need to get more production from their defensive line if they want to improve in 2023.
